A Room with a View, Mar 8 – Apr 19, 2008
The Pedro Cera Gallery takes great pleasure in announcing the exhibition by Nuno Cera, A Room With a View.
In this new series of works carried out by Nuno Cera, the designation A Room With a View corresponds to the overall title of the series presented in the exhibition and refers to a set of images obtained from rooms in hotels chosen by the artist and situated in several different cities.
In this set the photographs are taken from inside the several different rooms, and possess many layers of information, giving way to the diluting of urban landscape with reflections from the inside, producing images that mixture and condense places, personal objects, affections, memories, stories and possible narratives.
The photographic process is analogical, without any kind of digital manipulation or Photoshop treatment.
The architecture, the specific geography of each place and the ways of identifying the cities are other important aspects in this series.
Nuno Cera’s choice of cities is based both on his experience and subjective relationship with them and on the interest that each city’s urban and social characteristics arouses in him.
Using a format different to the others, but also taken from inside a hotel room, the photograph Untitled (self portrait) is included here as a possible identification, metaphor and self portrait of the whole process.
The list of cities and hotels photographed is the following: Hotel Park Inn, Berlin; Sheraton Hotel & Spa, Lisbon; Hotel Dom Henrique, Oporto; Hotel Fasano, São Paulo; Ramada Plaza Hotel, Basel and the Hotel Arts in Barcelona.
